final post for catcher
I finished! I did not like the ending at all. I found it really odd. The excitement never came for me in the book. The one part I did enjoy however was when Holden gave his red hunting hat to Phoebe. It was so important to him, that it showed how much he cared for his little sister. She cares and looks out for him so much as well.

catcher post #3
So I am three quarters of the way through and I have realized that Holden does not like change. He enjoyed the museum because it never changes. Every exhibit was the same no matter how many years later he returned. The "eskimo" was always there waiting for him, fishing.
He doesn't like how people's lives have moved on. He wants to come in contact with his friends from many years ago, because his life has changed without them. Unfortunately he is not getting over his loneliness. Holden is definitely using his drinking and partying to get over pain that he feels inside. I am still waiting for the turn around.... I don't think its every going to come!
catcher post #2
Ok so now I'm a couple chapters in the second half of Catcher and nothing has really changed. Holden is still very lonely. I feel like Holden is somewhat living in the past. He always reflects on the past. He regrets many things such as not giving a lot of money to the nuns he met at breakfast.
I really admire and can relate to his feelings towards his younger sister. He is always thinking about her, and is caring for her. Wanting to give her the record and always wanting to go to the park to talk to her, shows us how much he really cares. It also allows us to realize how important family is to Holden.
I'm still waiting for the big and exciting section of the book... hopefully it will come!

First Half of The Catcher in the Rye
So, after reading the first part of The Catcher in the Rye, I just want to keep reading more... J.D. Salinger has gotten me hooked on the book! I enjoy the style that he writes in. It is more casually written than most books we discussed in previous English classes.
I also enjoy seeing the transformation in Holden's character. Initially he seemed very harsh; not caring about anything. He was more like a rebel. Now as the novel has gone on you see the person he truly is. The first time we get to see Holden's true personality was when he brought up his brother that passed away. He explains the baseball mitt, which was covered in poetry by his brother. When he writes the paper for Stradlater, his roommate, about the mitt its demonstrating that Holden is missing his brother. Also he is showing that he cared about Stradlater, because he was writing the paper for him. He was also very sensitive to the fact that Stradlater was going out with Jane, Holden's girl from the past.
We also come to realize that Holden is lonely. When he arrives to New York, all he wants are people around him to talk to.
